We're very proud to announce that last week the San Diego County Taxpayers Association saluted DMCC's partnership with the City of Del Mar with a prestigious "Golden Watchdog" award.
Presented during the association's annual Goldens Awards ceremony in San Diego, the accolade recognizes our Essential Transportation Program, which is underwritten by the City, managed by Community Connections and made possible by more than 30 volunteer drivers. The program provides free rides to nondriving older adults in Del Mar. (Learn more here!)
Golden Watchdog awards celebrate programs that highlight transparency, creativity and fiscal responsibility in local government.
Accepting the award on DMCC's behalf was Board Member Wayne Otchis, a career tax accountant, who attended with his wife Linda; both are longtime volunteer drivers. Also attending to represent DMCC was Program Manager Kara Adams, who efficiently and effectively manages Essential Transportation. City of Del Mar Mayor Terry Gaasterland accepted the award on the City's behalf after championing the recognition.
