BIG NEWS!

DMCC’s Essential Transportation services utilize a network of van services and volunteers driving their own personal vehicles to help seniors get groceries, go to medical appointments, attend to personal care, and more. “Access to transportation is key to independence, so when seniors no longer feel safe driving, it can be devastating for them,” commented DMCC’s Transportation Chair Judy Schuckit. “I’m excited that we’re able to make this life-changing service available to more members of our community – and keep them at home in the community we all love.”

Previously available to City of Del Mar residents, DMCC expanded geographic eligibility for the program last summer, and as of this month, we’ve expanded once again. As part of our 5-year strategic plan DMCC’s Board of Directors and staff committed to serving more members of the community who are in need of greater assistance; as a result, anyone who no longer drives and lives in the 92014 ZIP code, west of I-5 and south of Via de la Valle, is eligible (please see eligibility map for reference). Enrollment and eligibility verification is required, and some guidelines apply. The program is completely free to those who are enrolled.

So if you or a senior or disabled neighbor need a ride on the Sassy Chassis to get your weekly groceries or could use the help of a background-checked volunteer to get to medical appointments, please visit the Essential Transportation page of our website to learn more and apply today!
